Generational Intelligence
Bridging the generational divide in a disrupted world
A keynote and workshop by Dee Hunter
“High performance organisations are not built by managing generations, but by connecting them.”
Dee Hunter
Why generations need a new conversation

For thousands of years, wisdom moved from one generation to the next. Elders passed the fire to the young: the stories, the skills and the hard-won understanding of how to live well together. That tradition is rapidly being lost. For the first time in history, seven generations are alive at once, and the gap between them is wider and growing faster than ever. Institutional distrust is rising, the third spaces where generations once mixed are disappearing, and younger and older people spend less and less time in each other’s company. Each generation now lives inside its own feed, its own economy and its own version of the world, amplified and filtered by technology.
The cost is deeply human. We have more ways to connect than at any point in history, yet loneliness, anxiety and disconnection are rising in every generation, and the young people who hold the greatest share of our future are carrying much of it. Families feel it at the kitchen table. Organisations feel it too, with up to five generations working side by side. Gen Z are recording the highest rates of absenteeism, often linked to anxiety, burnout and a lack of psychological safety, and many younger employees quietly disengage or leave without warning. Experienced people hold knowledge that is rarely passed on, and it walks out the door with them.
The Keynote
Bridging the gap
Generational Intelligence™ gives organisations the understanding and language to turn a multigenerational workforce into a strength. The keynote traces the zeitgeist of each generation: the events, technology, parenting styles and economic pressures that shaped how people think, communicate, make decisions and lead. From the latchkey independence of Gen X to the drone parenting that raised Gen Z, audiences begin to recognise themselves and each other, and to see that much of what they once read as character is social conditioning.
So why are loneliness and disconnection rising at the very moment we have more tools to connect than ever? It’s easier to blame the phones than admit we’ve forgotten how to be human together. Dee draws on the orca as a metaphor, whose matriarchs guide their pods long after their breeding years, to show what we lose when the fire stops passing between generations, and what becomes possible when it flows again. Then come the tools that bridge the gap: empathy, curiosity and humility, and the habit of collecting the dots before connecting them. These are skills for life, as valuable with partners, parents, children and grandchildren as they are with colleagues.

Your people walk out with:
A clear understanding of what shaped each generation and how it shows up at work
Insight into their own generational lens and the blind spots that come with it
The ability to reframe generational conflict as cultural, so it stops feeling personal
Practical communication strategies that reduce friction and build trust across age groups
An awareness of life stage as well as generation, and how motivation shifts across a career
A shared language for difference that helps cross-generational teams work well together
A shift from “why don’t they just get it?” to “what am I not seeing yet?”
"NOT what I was expecting in a good way. One of the most eye-opening relevant keynotes I’ve ever seen. You made yourself so vulnerable, sharing your story and your research, and it changed the way I see the people around me & myself".

The Workshop
Generational Intelligence Lab
The keynote opens the conversation, and the workshop builds the capability. Over four hours, in person or virtually, Dee takes participants deep into the theory of generational diversity: how and why different generations think, act, communicate and behave the way they do at work, at home and in everyday life. Highly interactive and discussion-based, it moves from the social, technological and economic forces that shaped each generation into clear strategies for working across difference.
Participants reflect on their own behaviours and relationships at work, at home and in life more broadly, and leave equipped to help bridge the gap wherever they meet it. Each workshop is tailored to the organisation’s context and people, and all participants are supplied with resources to support their learning.
The workshop also introduces MIX, the Mutual Intelligence Exchange™ protocol, a formal structure for reverse mentoring that keeps knowledge moving in both directions long after the session ends.

The Generational Intelligence Quiz
Ahead of the keynote or workshop, participants are invited to complete a 30-question Generational Intelligence quiz. Designed as a pre-session activation, it measures their current understanding of the generations they work and live with, including the zeitgeist, values and expectations that shape each one. The results give each participant a clear baseline of their knowledge and potential blind spots, and prepare them to engage more openly from the start of the session.

The MIX Protocol
MIX, the Mutual Intelligence Exchange™, is a formal reverse mentoring protocol. People from different generations are carefully matched into pairs for a series of guided conversations, building trust, belonging and confidence within working hours.
Dee works strategically with People and Culture to match the right participants, with psychological safety built in: no one is paired with someone responsible for their workload, performance or pay. Participants log their sessions and reflections through a simple, purpose-built portal, and leaders receive regular progress reporting and an end-of-programme impact summary. MIX can begin as The Listening Lab, a small three-month pilot, before scaling across the organisation.
