Elevating emotional well-being from coping to competency

A keynote and workshop by Dee Hunter

“The challenge is no longer helping people recover from change but upskilling them how to operate well in a world where change never stops.”

Why stress needs a new conversation

Pressure is the request. Stress is the resistance. Stress today is rarely caused by a single pressure point. And it quickly becomes cumulative when driven by unchecked momentum.

Continuous adaptation, sustained cognitive load, fragmented attention and constant reprioritisation create a strain that is less visible and more corrosive over time. People keep performing well while feeling stretched, mentally fatigued and depleted underneath.

Many organisations have already invested in resilience training, which assumes there will be an end to change and a chance to bounce back to a previous baseline. For most people, that baseline no longer exists. Left unchecked, chronic stress is linked to metabolic disruption and disease later in life, and the coping mechanisms and adaptive behaviours people reach for inevitably do as much harm as the stress itself.

The Keynote

From Coping To Competency

Stress Mastery introduces the Stress Intelligence™ framework, which recognises that change is the new constant and builds the capability to operate well inside ongoing pressure. It starts with the nervous system.

"Cars have brakes so they can go faster."

The sympathetic nervous system is our accelerator and the parasympathetic nervous system is our brake. Dee guides us through how stress works in the brain and body, accumulates over time, and how to re-regulate it intelligently before capacity erodes.

A core reframe sits at the heart of the keynote: pressure is an external demand, and stress is the body’s response to sustained or perceived threat. When people miss that distinction, they push harder trying to think their way out of a physiological state, and you cannot change a thought with a thought.

Dee also takes on the attention economy, showing how technology and constant connectivity keep the brain’s loops open and the stress response firing. By reframing stress as a biological and behavioural process, she reduces self-blame and moves people from victims of change to agents of the change.

The Workshop

The Stress Intelligence™ Lab

The keynote opens the conversation, and the workshop builds the capability. Over four hours, in person or virtually, Dee takes participants deep into the science of the nervous system, stress, anxiety, momentum and cortisol control. Each part begins with the key theory so everything makes sense, then moves into practical tools participants test and practise together. They assess their own stress response and leave with a plan built around their personal and working lives.

The Stress Intelligence™ framework is the result of three years of global research. Each workshop is tailored through pre-work insight into the organisation’s context and people, and all participants are supplied with resources to support their learning.
